I am very excited to talk about M. Toguchi Body Shop.
My connection to this excellent body shop starts with meeting Brent Toguchi. Brent is a grandson of Masano Toguchi, the founder and namesake of their business. Brent’s father, Daniel M. Toguchi, is the President and CEO of the company. Brent and I paddled a canoe together in Hawaiian Canoe Club’s Open Men Novice A crew. We also paddled in The Pailolo, a race from Maui to Molokai. Through the course of the regatta and long-distance paddling seasons, Brent and I became great friends.
I usually don’t try to pitch a new website project to my friends, but eventually, Brent approached me about making a new site for his family’s business. We set up a time to meet and make it happen.
My First Impressions of Their Previous Site
Their previous site showed that M. Toguchi did not rely on digital marketing to keep their shop full. Their shop is bustling and full. Their business success stems from quality work, honesty, and word-of-mouth reputation.
When I started their new site, I edited their existing content and produced an additional 200% more text content. They needed other services to be listed and to show what auto manufacturers they were certified to repair. I also posted pictures of the staff on the about page. Showing people’s faces makes companies more trustworthy to new customers.
One part of this project that I was particularly excited about was their reviews page.
Both the front page and testimonies page is automated to import new reviews from Google and Yelp daily. This is a relatively new feature in my offerings as a web developer, which significantly increases a website’s search prominence.
Another new website feature was their website’s chat interface.
Customers can message them directly from their website, and they will receive the message on their computer or a mobile device (or both). They also have access to a one-button review request, which has gotten them more reviews last month than any month in the business’s 60 years of being open. Brent has told me many times that open communication with their customers has benefited their new website’s most significant benefit.
M. Toguchi Body Shop is currently subscribed to one of my content plans.
The blogs and all the new text content and pages have helped them rank higher in Maui-based searches. The embedded Instagram feed and reviews also help with search engine optimization (SEO). While before, if you were to search for ‘Maui Body Shop,’ you would find several businesses listed before M. Toguchi Body Shop. Now they are the first business you see on a Google search. The new mobile compatibility has helped quite a bit with SEO as well.
